Information for Clients

Before Your Sugaring Appointment

  • You will need 1/4" of hair on the body for sugaring. 1/4" is the length of a grain of rice. Facial hair does not have to be as long unless it is coarse chin hair.
  • Exfoliate the skin to be sugared the morning of your appointment.
  • Some people find it helpful to take an ibuprofen before hair removal.
  • Avoid caffeine beforehand. It increases sensitivity and anxiety.
  • Wearing soft clothing next to the skin to your appointment will keep you comfortable afterward when your skin is a bit sensitive.
  • You should grow your hair for at least 3 to 4 weeks from your last shave if you are going from shaving to sugaring. If your hair is natural,  it is less painful if you trim to between 1/4" and a 1/2". Please be careful not to go shorter than a 1/4" though.

After Your Sugaring Appointment

Your skin will be a bit irritated after hair removal. This is normal. The longer you sugar, the less your skin will react.  Be kind to your skin while it's like this.

  • Wear soft clothes as soon as possible afterward if you weren't able to wear something comfortable to your appointment.
  • Don't go sit in a sauna, a hot tub, a tanning bed, or a bath.
  • Don't go work out (friction and sweating) while your skin is still irritated.
  • Ideally, don't touch your face directly after waxing as any germs on hands will go into your open pores.

Skin on the face tends to stay irritated for a couple hours.  Skin on the body tends to show redness or tenderness for a day or two at first, depending on your skin sensitivity.  The more often you wax, the finer the hair will get, the weaker the roots will get, and the less your skin will be irritated by the hair being removed.

Between Sugaring: Exfoliation

Between sugaring, your at home care is to exfoliate the area you are removing hair.  This both helps the hair to come out easier when you do get sugared and helps prevent ingrown hairs.  While the hair is absent, any dead skin cells that sit on the skin can work their way into the pore and block the follicle, causing ingrown hairs. Using a sugar scrub on the body area being sugared three to four times a week will help to prevent this problem.  You could also use a body brush. A wash cloth or plastic loofah will not do the proper exfoliating needed though.
